About the event
The Coastal Resilience Short Course Level I: Foundations will be held from 19–21 August 2026 at Griffith University's Gold Coast Campus, offering a comprehensive introduction to coastal management in Australia and the Asia–Pacific.
Designed for professionals working in local and state government, NGOs, and the private sector, this foundational program blends expert-led sessions with practical learning to build essential knowledge in coastal resilience, coastal hazards, and adaptive approaches to shoreline change. The program introduces foundational concepts in geomorphology, coastal hazards, planning and policy frameworks, community engagement, and nature-based solutions. Led by experts from research, government, and industry, the course fosters peer learning and networking across sectors. The course will be delivered through interactive classroom-based presentations, group discussions, and applied case study work, providing participants with the skills and frameworks needed to understand and respond to coastal risks. An eye-opening and transformative experience. The Coastal Resilience Short Course reshaped how I approach coastal planning—moving beyond technical fixes to embrace systems thinking, meaningful community engagement, and long-term adaptation. I left the course with practical tools, renewed clarity, and a stronger sense of purpose in my role.
